Going Camping? Make sure you grab these to make your trip comfortable and easier!
Camping. The word used to send shivers down my spine. It’s not that I hate the great outdoors, I love it. I just don’t like not being in a house or hotel for sleeping. But camping is one of those experiences the kids need, or at least that’s what my husband says to me over and over.
Being a savvy mom, though, I did my homework before going to ensure this would be a positive experience. I’ve rounded up a few items that I think are must haves if you have more than one child and are going to be leaving the comforts of home.
If you go yearly, you might want to invest in something like this Disc-O-Bed Youth Kid-O-Bunk with Organizers, http://goo.gl/bycCOF it’s pricey but an awesome space saver and okay I’ll admit it, it’s super cool looking. You can take them apart, make a sofa, or use them as bunks. The upside to this is that if you regularly send the bambinos over to grandparent’s homes or have sleepovers, these will definitely be used more than just a couple times a year.
Handing a child a plate of food is almost always certainly asking them to drop it. It’s like a law of physics that brings me to my next must have. Outdoor Garden Aluminum Portable Folding Camping Picnic Table W/ 4 Seats http://goo.gl/P7BXl8 It folds nicely and has a sleek carrying case. I’m sold! If only for the kids, this will ensure they SIT and the food and plates don’t end up on the ground where it will sure enough become bait for ants and other creepy crawlies. Again, this can pull double duty when you are at the sidelines of those after school football games or tailgating, or any get together.
There is nothing like waking up to chirping birds and the fresh smells of nature. It’s even better if your back is not sore from sleeping on the ground. No way my 40-ish years old body can handle that anymore, so that’s why I make sure to pack an inflatable air mattress. I have this model and love it, Intex Comfort Plush Elevated Dura-Beam Airbed, Bed Height 22″, Queen http://goo.gl/bkc5IH It has a built in pump so you won’t forget it at home. Trust me, this is important as I have been the one driving to the gas station to inflate an air mattress because the pump was still sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to be packed. When not camping this does wonderful double duty for overnight guests at home.
Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! Bugs are a huge problem for me. I have to be prepared. I hate seeing flies around food and I don’t like to eat and swat flies with my hands. Yeah I’m not outdoorsy. And if that wasn’t enough, Mosquitos think I’m prime beef! But to avoid these situations I’m going to make sure to bring these next two items with us.
A screen house, like the Coleman 10 x 10 Instant Screened Canopy http://goo.gl/orYGGT will do the trick! When I camped as a child my parents had one and it was perfect. Open it up and keep the table with food, ice chests etc. in there and safe from the sun, flies, mosquitos, and other bugs. You can use this anywhere you need shade later on, like the beach, the lake or the kids sports games.
Mosquito Repellent Citronella Wristbands http://goo.gl/4yTIJE are my new BFF! I actually bought these for a recent trip to Mexico and keep them handy at home since my daughter and I are mosquito bait. These are our go to for ANY outdoor activity and will help keep us bug bite FREE!
My list doesn’t include portable toilets or showers because I don’t plan to be that far from plumbing….oh no yeah that would NOT work. Now we are ready to pack all the rest, and I am tired just thinking about it LOL but camping is really fun and totally worthwhile to make fabulous memories!
